Our Story

On March 2nd 2009 at our routine 20 week ultrasound we received the news that there was no amniotic fluid surrounding our baby.  At our follow up appointment a week later we were told our baby had cysts in both kidneys and would not live past birth due to the lack of amniotic fluid and the lungs never developing because of that. The official diagnosis was Bilateral Multicystic Dysplastic Kidney Disease which is part of Potters Sequence or Syndrome.  We were encouraged to terminate our pregnancy, but that is not a decision we could make and we wanted to carry our child to term, or as long as we could.
After a false diagnosis from the ER and being told we needed to induce for my health by my OB we went in for an induction at 32 weeks on May 25th 2009.  On May 27th 2009 at 5:17 PM after 45 hours of induction and 31 hours of contractions, we gave birth and discovered that we had a daughter.  Grace Capri.  Our world stopped at that moment.  The OB said that she was stillborn, but after her cord was cut and the laid her on my chest, she started to gasp.  The OB said it was nothing and said it was only a reflex and she was stillborn.  He never checked for a heartbeat.  (after talking with other professionals we've discovered our daughter was born alive and lived for about 10-15 minutes after birth.  The OB wouldn't change his opinion though and we have not been able to get a birth certificate for our daughter)
It has been 5 years since we have said goodbye and every day still hurts.  We have been blessed with our Rainbow Girl, and have another blessing due in August this year (2014).  Grace is very much a part of our family and always will be.  We hope that by sharing our story we can help others understand the grief of pregnancy and infant loss, and help others through their journey.
